Surroundings

The Gers is perhaps one of the best kept secrets of France. Because of the rolling landscape of this area, also known as the Gascogne, it is often referred to as "the Tuscany of France" and not without reason: everywhere are fields of sunflowers and vineyards, and from time to time a church, a chapel or a beautiful small village.

However, the surroundings provide more than just beautiful views. The nearest attraction, within walking distance of our campsite, is the picturesque village of Lavardens with its impressive castle.

In the spa town Castéra-Verduzan, whithin a ten minutes drive from our camping, you can visit the thermae, the casino, or the recreation lake. In addition, you will find several restaurants, a baker, a butcher, and a small supermarket. More shops and supermarkets can be found in Fleurance, which is very busy on Tuesday mornings, because of the weekly market in and around the old city centre. Auch is the capital of the Gers, and also the largest city in the immediate surroundings, with its "Centre Historique", the impressive cathedral and the Musée des Jacobins.

Other sights in the vicinity: the spa town of Lectoure with its famous 'bleus de pastel', Larressingle, which is the smallest fortress village of France, Valence-sur-Baïse with the Abbey of Flaran, and the medieval village of Fourcès. Other places of interest: La Romieu with the Collégiale and the magnificent Gardens of Coursiana, Condom with the famous cathedral and the Musée de l'Armagnac, and Cassaigne, with its fabulous château.

On a little more than one hour drive you will find the beautiful city of Toulouse. Lourdes (two hours from the campsite) is worth a daytrip as well.
